Mayor and City Council Responsibilitie

The City Council typically meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are held in the City Council Chambers at Premont City Hall.

Citizens are encouraged to attend City Council meetings and participate in the local government process. Public participation provides residents with an opportunity to stay informed and share their views on matters affecting the community.

City Hall

City Hall is located at 200 S Agnes Street.

Located inside City Hall is the Mayor's Office, Water Clerks Office, Municipal Court and Judges Office, Accounts Payable, and the City Secretary.

Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday 8:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

Premont City Council meetings are held in the conference room every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.

Water Department

Water Department is responsible for water quality, maintenance and repair of city water lines, water pressure issues, and opening and closing water accounts.

City water accounts can be opened at City Hall with the Water Clerk.

Streets, Parks, and Alleys Department

This department is responsible for maintenance of city streets, parks, and alleys.

Sanitation and Waste Department

This department is responsible for trash bin collection, bulk, and debris pick up on scheduled days or as requested through the year.

The City of Premont has begun its own disposal services in 2025. This has allowed the City to internally manage disposal services resulting in the revenue and jobs staying in Premont.

Animal Control Department

This department is responsible for the collection of stray, feral, or discarded dogs and cats inside the city limits.

The Premont Animal Control Facility was built in 2024 using funding from various governmental agencies allowing the City to better manage and house loose animals.

The Premont Animal Control Facility is a limited access building allowing only vetted city personnel on site.

To report stray, loose, or dangerous animals during business hours please contact City Hall at (361) 348-2022.

To report dangerous animals or animal bites, please contact the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office Dispatch at (361) 668-0341. They will dispatch Premont Police Department and Animal Control.

Municipal Court

The Premont Municipal Court is open during regular City Hall business hours.

The Premont Municipal Court is the Honorable Judge Mario Rodriguez.

Premont Police Department

The Premont Police Department is a full time law enforcement agency dedicated to the safety and security of the residents of Premont. The agency is comprised of 13 full time Texas Peace Officers and Reserve Texas Peace Officers.

The Premont Police Department is also responsible for the security of the Premont Independent School District and has permanently assigned officers at all its campuses.

The Premont Police Department takes great pride in the training and experience of its officers, including such specialties as Narcotics and Human Trafficking Interdiction, School Based Law Enforcement, Police K-9 Operations, SWAT Certified Officers, EMT Trained and Certified Officers, and much more.

Premont Volunteer Fire Department

Premont is proud to have an all volunteer Fire Department that works closely with local Emergency Management Departments.

Highly trained volunteers respond to all call outs in the city of Premont as well as surrounding areas.
